Ambassador Javad Dehghan Presents Credentials to President Bio

H.E. Javad Dehghan Haghighi Lotfabadi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Sierra Leone, presented his credentials to H.E. Julius Maada Bio on Tuesday 14 April 2026 at the State House in Freetown.

During the meeting, the new Ambassador conveyed the warm greetings of the President of I.R. Iran, H.E. Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, to his Sierra Leonean counterpart, and expressed hope that through the efforts of the Embassy, and the support of the President of Sierra Leone and his cabinet during his mission in Freetown, cooperation and relations between the two countries will be strengthened in areas with potential and in line with Sierra Leone’s national development plan.

 

Ambassador Dehghan also praised the efforts of the President as the Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS to establish peace and security in the West African region, and stated that the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran also emphasizes a multilateral approach in its foreign policy.

 

President Bio, while conveying his warm greetings to his Iranian counterpart, expressed hope that under his leadership and the efforts of the new Ambassador, friendly relations between the two countries will further develop. Referring to the fluid nature of events regarding the US-Israeli war against Iran, and its reaching a turning point, he expressed his hope that the conflict would be resolved through diplomacy as soon as possible.

 

The Sierra Leonean President stated that his government emphasizes strengthening relations with development partners and that any support from friendly countries would certainly help the progress of the people of Sierra Leone. In conclusion, he expressed his readiness to enhance bilateral relations and wished the Iranian Ambassador success in the beginning of his mission.
